Nimue's reading medal
This week marked the culmination of the Family Reading Program at Nimue's school; she has read 157 books since the program started in February! She was recognized for her achievement with a certificate, coupons for free burgers and ice cream, and a medal that she is very proud of.
A longish bike ride
Got out for a nice mountain-bike ride last weekend; the weather was unseasonably cool and cloudy, but I was happy just to be outside riding. This ride was on my single-speed; with only one, you're always in the wrong gear!

Fun with AT&T billing!
Trying to make sure my old phone service is actually disconnected, I had to go through 4 entities (the first one was a computer) and provide my phone number each time... was told I would receive my "Final Initial" bill shortly. Now, just what the heck is *that*? Final means last, initial means first, presumably of several... "I'm just reading it off the screen, sir" says the polite fellow on the line.
They can't tell me whether my close-out bill will be sent electronically or in the mail... and I get two different amounts from two different people.
How much inefficiency can one (mega-corporate-behemoth) company withstand? The very first person I spoke with should have been able to answer my pretty simple question.
I really wasn't on hold all that long, and the call still took 27 minutes.

This site shows a map of all the solar installations in the city of San Francisco -- pretty neat!

Mars Landing
The Phoenix lander arrives on Mars on Sunday the 25th... The mission website is http://phoenix.lpl.arizona.edu/
NASA TV coverage begins at 3:30 pm Pacific time.
The area I lead at work has teams providing the tools for mission planning, data viewing, and work-area visualization.

Visit to Cantor museum
We went to the Cantor art museum with Frosty and Grandma Linda / Mom last weekend, but this post didn't make it onto the blog...

more pictures of the new house
I got into the house today to measure the rooms and to also take pictures for all you curious relatives out there. I also noticed that despite the fact that it was 93 degrees outside, the house and atrium were delightfully cool. Yay foam roof!
4 bedroom/2 bath with a big 2 car garage which will end up being Chad's bike shop/brewery/workshop palace
We should close on June 5, and make a leisurely move to the new digs during the month of June.

Our new house!
Offer on new house accepted. Most excellent little Eichler with atrium and big wall of glass looking out onto the back yard. Much drama over the course of the day, with competing offers and the added distraction of the house next door to it (also a nice Eichler) coming on the market just a couple of hours before the time offers were being taken on the first one. Had to be investigated, of course. Happy with decision, in the end. Tired now.

Delta Century
At 63 miles (100km, a "metric century") this was Nimue's biggest ride to date, and close to twice the length of her previous record ride... We had excellent weather, only a bit of wind to contend with and very pleasant temperatures. There were plenty of good food stops, which we made full use of... the second stop even had comfy pillows to lounge on, on a big grassy lawn.
Nimue and Anna powered the tandem, while Chad kept track of turns, took photos, blocked the headwinds, and tried to stay out of the way of the tandem on downhills (of which there were few, this being a very nearly flat ride.)
Other highlights included several drawbridges and a ferry crossing, seemingly endless vineyards in full leaf, and many delightful levee roads overlooking bucolic stretches of river and slough. A fine time was had by all!
