Day 26 of our captivity: The pinnacle of humanity
Today, the teen pointed out that in the small kid version of the teen brain, I was the “Pinnacle of Humanity”. Adding that to the “Scurvy Hand of Justice” and “Ageless Immortal Being”, I am accumulating quite the list of titles. One might miss the kid once college starts!

Day 24 of our captivity: Hike
I got out of the house this morning, so I wouldn’t inadvertently make noise while Chad was on yet another telecom and the kid did a practice AP Lit exam. It was overcast, but not raining, so I rode my bike over to a local park and went for a hike.
One thing we’ve noticed as everything slows down is that you can hear quite a bit of bird song. I enjoyed my hike :)

It was decidedly odd to look down to the city below and notice that there were essentially no cars on the freeway.
A few wildflowers are peeking out. I suspect there are more in other parks, but I am confining myself to places I can get to without driving.
An added surprise, on examining the abe picture at home, there are little teeny tiny droplets of water visible on each and every blade of grass. Welcome to spring!

Day 23 of our captivity: Nothing to report
I managed to submit our taxes and make dinner. Tomorrow should be more interesting. Here is a cat as a placeholder.

Day 22 of our captivity: I made a thing
In the ever-changing sea of recommendations, we’re now supposed to wear masks when going into stores, lest we unwittingly be asymptomatic carriers breathing out virus onto the poor grocery store checkers. Since it’s been a week and a half since I’ve gotten groceries, and we were running out of milk, I made a mask out of some scrap fabric.
Incidentally, it was raining today, which meant that the line to get into Trader Joe’s was much shorter than last time I went — a mere 30 minutes (compared to 90!! minutes the last time).

Day 21 of our captivity: Dreaming of skiing
It is wet here today, and cold. If everything weren’t all clouded in, we would be able to see the snow that fell on Hamilton last night. That reminded me that I never posted any pictures from our abbreviated ski season this year. Enjoy!
Near Downieville in Feb, there wasn’t really enough snow to ski on, so we strapped on crampons and went hiking. I’m trying not to think about all of the March and April snow that has come in since we have been unable to travel.

Day 20 of our captivity: Walk in between rain showers
The kid and I got outside for a walk and managed to dodge rain showers this afternoon. We liked this budding purple flower, which is maybe some sort of mutant agapanthus???

Day 19 of our captivity: Paella Party
We’ve been trying to support local businesses as we can, given that they are hard hit by the current shelter order. Tonight, I ordered takeout from Cascal, a tapas place over in downtown Mountain View. I was amused to see that the first item on their menu was a “Paella Party”, which sounded so cheerful that I naturally had to order it. We all enjoyed it thoroughly.

Day 18 of our captivity: Not an April Fool
We found out yesterday that school is officially online-only through the end of the school year. Despite the date the notice was sent, it is not an April Fool’s joke. Feh. Kid is somewhat bummed about the end of senior year (was sort of hoping to get back for the last couple of weeks and graduation), though is also enjoying being able to sleep in before logging in to class.
In other news, I took a 9-mile walk this morning; it is sunny and gorgeous, and the air is clear :)
